Three Faculty Members Receive Promotions

On May 18, 2023, Central Seminary’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve rank promotions for the following faculty members:

Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield II from Fred E. Young Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible to Fred E. Young Professor of Hebrew Bible. Dr. Hartsfield joined the Central Seminary faculty in 2009 and teaches primarily in the areas of Hebrew Bible, Biblical Interpretation, and Homiletics. He also serves as pastor of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist church in Kansas City, Missouri. President Pamela R. Durso noted, “Central Seminary has been blessed for fourteen years by Dr. Hartsfield’s extraordinary gift for classroom teaching and his strong commitment to accompanying students in their journeys of learning and discovery. We celebrate his exemplary service and his spirit of collegiality.”

Dr. Samuel Park from Associate Professor of Practical Theology and Contextual Ministry to Professor of Practical Theology and Contextual Ministry. Dr. Park joined the Central Seminary Faculty in 2013 and teaches primarily in the areas of Pastoral Theology, Care and Counseling, and Formation. Dr. Park is also the Director of Korean Programs. “For the last ten years,” said President Durso, “Dr. Park has dedicated himself to building a thriving Korean Program at Central. He has expanded and enriched the curriculum offered and has recruited both students and top-notch supplemental faculty members for our school. We are most grateful for his faithful and tireless service.”

Dr. John Park from Des Peres Assistant Professor of Congregational Health to Des Peres Associate Professor of Congregational Health. Dr. Park joined the Central Seminary faculty in 2017 and teaches primarily in the areas of Design Thinking and Leadership. Dr. Park is also the Director of Doctor of Ministry programs. “In six short years, Dr. Park has expanded the global reach of Central’s Doctor of Ministry program and grown it into our school’s largest program. On May 20, we celebrated the graduation of thirty DMin students from Myanmar, South Korea, and the United States. We are thankful for Dr. Park’s creative and enthusiastic leadership.”
