Rev. Walter Lanier is a recipient of Central Seminary’s 2021 Alumni Award for Ministry Excellence. 

Rev. Lanier is a 2011 Master of Divinity graduate who currently pastors Progressive Baptist Church Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He carries many roles within his community including pastor, community leader, lawyer, father, and husband.  He is a tireless advocate for justice in his community, particularly around issues of voting rights, and is a leader of MICAH, Milwaukee Innercity Congregations Allied for Hope.  And, according to his congregants, he has led with “calm and righteousness” through the difficult season of COVID, promoting safety and wellness while continuing his excellent ministry in creative ways. 

Carolyn Parker, a 2017 alum of Central’s Master of Arts (Theological Studies) program, nominated her pastor Rev. Walter Lanier for the ministry excellence award.
