Central Launches New Master of Arts in Ministry Program
Central Seminary is proud to announce the launch of a new graduate program, the Master of Arts in Ministry.
The Master of Arts in Ministry is a 36-credit-hour professional degree program that equips students for ministry in both church and community contexts. Students complete a core curriculum of 24 credit hours plus select 12 hours in a personalized study track of their choice. Available study tracks include the chaplaincy study track, peace and justice minis-try study track, and the build your own study track. Additional tracks will be added in the future.
The program is offered in English and is facilitated fully online in virtual classrooms. Central’s live, online classes offer students the best of two educational formats. Live classes provide an interactive, community-oriented learning environment with a professor providing real-time instruction and feedback and students participating from wherever they are located.
The creation of the Master of Arts in Ministry program is the seminary’s response to the second of three strategic initiatives in “The Future is Central,” which focuses on developing programs and reimagining curriculum that anticipates and addresses the evolving needs of students and graduates. As the educational needs of ministry student continue to shift and congregational participation and financial stability continues to decline, Central is commit-ted to offering innovative, affordable theological education.
Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Kathy Maxwell, says of the new program, “Central’s Master of Arts in Ministry is both accessible and relevant. The personalized study track allows students to focus on their vocational goals and to complete a degree without the need to relocate. At the same time, courses in Forming Spiritual Com-munity and Global Conversations ensure that Central students continue to benefit from the diverse experiences and perspectives of their peers, located across the country and around the globe.”
The Master of Arts in Ministry program launches in Fall (August) of 2025.
