Founding Administrator of Counseling Programs & Former Professor of Counseling
Dr. Larry L. Cornine, BSEd, MA Clinical Counseling, MsEd, EdSp, EdD was a Professor of Counseling and Administrator of Counseling Programs at Central Seminary.
Dr. Cornine, 81, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022. The founding administrator of our counseling programs, Dr. Cornine faithfully served Central as he built our counseling program, developed the curriculum, hired faculty, and recruited students. He especially delighted in his students, and as Dr. Lindsay Bonebrake, the director of the counseling program noted, “He saw in them the potential to care well for others during their most difficult times.” She also captured his personality so well, “The joy that Dr. Cornine exuded in all that he did is joy that is rarely matched in any person. He found good in everyone he encountered.” Dr. Cornine’s enthusiasm for life, for education, and for counseling was contagious, and we are a better seminary and a better community for having had him among us.
Dr. Cornine had been a public-school Biology and Human Physiology teacher and a high school principal. He then established a private counseling practice growing to 21 professional counselors and served a clinical consultant to 3 inpatient hospitals. Retiring from private practice, he established the Residential and Online BA in Counseling Psychology, Master of Counseling, and Doctor of Counseling Programs at Midwestern College and Seminary before coming to Central. He has written and published counseling guides for treating depression, anxiety, addiction, anger, family counseling, and premarital-marital issues.
