Central leaders advocate for
Just treatment of Kansas City Youth
Three leaders from Central participate in the Interfaith Clergy Steering Committee chaired by Rabbi Alan Cohen, Dr. Amy H. Hartsfield, Dr. Richard P. Olson, and Dr. Molly T. Marshall. In light of the recent events of disturbance on the Plaza, these leaders participated in drafting a statement of concern. We believe that a theological seminary should not be invisible on the social landscape. Further, because we believe that the Bible teaches justice, we do not want to be silent on issues of this magnitude in our community.
An Interfaith Statement Regarding the April 10, 2010 Plaza Occurrence
We, leaders of many of the greater KC faith institutions, collaboratives, and coalitions are compelled by our faith and love for humanity to offer words of care, compassion and courage.
We, like you, care deeply for this wonderful Kansas City metropolitan area and the diversity of persons, institutions and entities that comprise it. We also know that everyone shares our care and concern for justice in relating to our young people.
We urge you to draw upon your compassion as we address this specific incident which concerns us all.
And finally, we pray for courage that, together, we might deepen our conversations towards achieving mutual understanding, mutual respect and sustained hope.
We hope that you will offer an appropriate prayer within your place of worship this Sabbath weekend on behalf of all within our community—citizens of all ages and those responsible for preserving the law—to deepen our relationships.
