Professional Development with Global Partners
 in Southeast Asia

On June 4th two different groups of Central faculty, staff, and students will be heading to Southeast Asia to participate with various global partners in professional development.

Philippine Connection 2010: Equipping God’s People for Works of Service

Drs. Ruth and Terry Rosell will be going to the Philippines with Rev. Derek Varney (MDiv  ’02), his wife Margaret, and Mr. Paul and Mrs. Morna Wood from First Baptist Church, Olathe, KS, to collaborate with Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches leaders on two training sessions for local pastors.

Two workshops will be held, June 9-11 and 14-16, at the retreat facilities of the Humayan Ministries, an organization which helps train rural pastors to support their ministries from the land. Pastors from the islands of Negros and Peney and ministry students from Central Philippine University will gather for mutual learning with a team of Filipino Baptist leaders plus the Woods, Varneys, and Rosells.

This collaborative effort has been in development for the past couple of years. Central sent the Rosells to the Philippines last June to meet with local leaders and begin the collaboration process. Central has also assisted First Baptist Olathe in developing a funding plan for this opportunity.

A commissioning service for the team will be held at First Baptist, Olathe, during morning worship (10:30am) on Sunday, May 30. On July 17 at the ABMen’s Prayer Breakfast at FBC Olathe, the team will bring a report from the trip. All are welcome to attend both events.

You can follow along with the team at www.cbts.edu and www.fbcolathe.org beginning in early June.

Thailand Baptist Missionary Fellowship Annual Meeting

President Marshall, Vice-President Gravley, along with Central students Kate Hanch and David Stanley will be in Cha-am, Thailand, June 7-11, at the Annual Meeting of the Thailand Baptist Missionary Fellowship. President Marshall will be leading the Bible study sessions for the missionaries, while the other members of the team will be leading the youth.

President Marshall will be focusing on biblical and theological perspectives on the Holy Spirit. The youth portion of the meeting will focus on “Encountering the Spirit.” The missionary meeting is a time of reflection and refreshment involving a variety of Baptist mission groups serving in Thailand.

This is another opportunity for Central students to experience another culture and grow in awareness and appreciation for God’s activity in the world. President Marshall and Central student Kate Hanch will be blogging about their experience. Find the link to those blogs which will be posted on our website, so you can follow along with them and keep them in your prayers during this time.
